Information session about 3+2 Dual Degree Program Successful

       On the afternoon of December 22, 2015, an information session, organized by the International Office is successfully held at Room HH204, Hongyi Building to introduce 3+2,B.A./B.S and M.A. Dual Degree Program with The University of New Mexico(UNM). Present at the talk are Ms. Yi Li, representative of UNM, He Xiaoyang, Director of International Office, and Ms. You Yutingfrom International office. Li as the main speaker, introduces the program to students.
       At the beginning of the info session, He warmly welcomes Yi, and briefly introduces UNM. After introducing herself, Yi expresses her affection towards Zhu Hai’s nice climate, and then starts the conversation with American TV series set in New Mexico, which lightens the atmosphere and arouses students’ interests.
       As introduced, UNM, located in Albuquerque, is a comprehensive state university. As one of the top 25 public research universities, it is also one out of the fifty New Mexico's flagship research institutions and is accredited by National Council for the Accreditation of Education and www. (Based on the definition of College Board, flagship university is the oldest, largest and most renowned public university with the most research activities.) US News and World Report ranked UNM “Top 100 Best Public universities” in 2013, 180th in the country in their 2013 ranking of "Best Colleges" and at 181 out of world universities in 2015.
       Then, Yi mentions the Sandia Mountains, International Balloon Fiesta and people’s craze for fitness in Albuquerque. New Mexico hosts the biggest population of PhDs, writers and artists, its population of high tech staff occupying the fifth place in the country. Its capital city, Santa Fe has been honored as “city of the best air quality” by the World Health Organization. Yi introduces the faculty and research ability of UNM, emphasizing the two main schools currently running the 3+2 program-- Anderson School of Management and School of Engineering. The former was founded in 1947, and was accredited by AACSB in as early as 1975 (only 5% universities all over the world have this honor).       Anderson School of Management pay special attention to practice; consequently, the rate of employment is rising year by year; the latter is ranked 81st among all the engineering schools in the U.S. As one of the 20 schools sponsored by National Science Foundation, it cooperates with many top universities in the U.S., participating energetically in different activities.     
       Finally, Yi talks about the requirements for enrollment and the overall expenses for studying overseas. Generally speaking, 79-80 in TOEFL or IELTS 6.5 or above is needed. For Anderson School of Management, a GMAT score of higher than 500 is required, for School of Engineering, a GRE Verbal score of 146 and Quantitative score of 151 is required. While if the students’ application documents meets the requirements of UMN, the GMAT and GRE tests might be excused. In terms of average expenses (with tuition and living expenses included), undergraduates might spend about 230,000 RMB while postgraduates 20,000 RMB per year.
After that, students raise a lot of detailed questions about overseas study, all answered patiently by Li. So far, the info session has been a great success.
